How to ballast and weather N scale track IN VIDEO!
It's been a long time since I wanted to do this, and I finally managed to do it this time. Here is a 5 minutes ballast howto video:

A model railroad layout in N scale (1:160 proportion) representing a portion of the Southern Pacific Coast Line in Central California between Callender and Surf, including Guadalupe yard, set in 1974. The layout is focused on realistic operations.

Denny, you're a true magician!
Thanks for this video filled with inspiration :)
Simply Awensome! A real Joe Fugate's style video.

This may be the single best model railroad video I have ever viewed--and I have viewed a LOT of them in the last two years. Excellent work!
Denny, it's a quite inspiring video.. And the music too.
Excellent!

Great tutorial Denny!!!
Just a question: to glue you use 50/50 white glue and distilled water. In an older post (http://www.sp-coastline.com/2008/11/ballast-and-track-weathering.html) you said:
"Soak the ballast with diluted white glue (50% white glue, 40% water, 10% denaturated alcohol)"
Wat's the right way?
Ciao
Paolo
Thanks Paolo. Either way works! This time I found out straight alcohol was way too smelly :) so I added distilled water.
Then I mixed white glue 50/50 with distilled water, so I could avoid using alcohol again in the glue mix.
Fantastic! Very informative and and educational. And I like it how you kept the camera fixed during the whole sequence so that you could really focus on what you where doing. Excellent.

Great job!
I'm always looking forward to see your new posts on this blog and they're all great.
By the way, congratulations for your article on the first issue of MRH e-journal. Another great work!
Ciao, Ricky4208.
Thanks guys!
I kept the camera attached to a tripod all the time (actually 2 days) and tried not to hit it while working :)
Then with Final Cut Express software I edited it all in a 5 minutes video.
wonderful video!!
Denny,
I am a beginner in the process of doing a diorama. Of all the videos found on the web, this by far is the easiest and most clear. Thank you for your simple effort.
WOW! Just found this. Fantastic!
Great video! I can't seem to find those syringes anywhere. Where did you get them?
Ed
I can't seem to find those syringes anywhere. Can you tell me where you got them? I've always had troouble at that point, it seems like everything I used moved the ballast around too much! Thanks!
Wow! Molto Bene! Where can i get those syringes?
Very nicely done!! A suggestion. Ballast on the real ones isn't all of a uniform colour. To add "accents" to the ballast, mix in a little bit of "cinders" and brown ballast. It takes the "shine" off of the "grey" so that it will look more like the real McCoy.
